The Mat 75 cm bar stool with front upholstery from Normann Copenhagen It combines a seagrass seat shell with a beechwood frame. It stands at bars and counters and demonstrates how natural materials can look in everyday life.

design & material

The Danish studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen designed Mat after years of development; it is manufactured in Denmark. "Mat" stands for "Materials": hemp and seagrass, a type of algae, form the shell and define its look and feel. The frame is made, among other things, of FSC™ certified beech plywood (FSC-C163461), and the footrest is black. According to the manufacturer, Mat is designed for disassembly and recycling.

The front cushion makes the seat soft, while the shell remains visible. With a seat height of 75 cm, the chair is suitable for bar counters and higher kitchen counters, and the footrest provides support for the feet. Weighing between 6.3 and 7.1 kg depending on the model, it is easy to move.

Mission & combination

Die Mat-Chair-Kollektion umfasst eine Hanfschale, die in einem eigens entwickelten Kompressionsverfahren gefertigt wird. Das Gestell von Mat Chair besteht aus FSC™ zertifiziertem (FSC-C163461) Buchensperrholz und Buchensperrholz aus anderen kontrollierten Quellen oder aus pulverbeschichtetem Stahl in den zwei Farboptionen Cream oder Black. Die Barversionen mit Holzgestell verfügen über einen Fussring aus pulverbeschichtetem Stahl für zusätzlichen Komfort und Stabilität. Die Schale wird aus einer einzigartigen Mischung aus 75% Hanffasern gefertigt, während die restlichen 25% aus einem eigens entwickelten, recycelbaren Bico-Bindemittel bestehen. Die Seaweed-Variante besteht aus 69% Hanffasern, 6% Seegras (Seaweed) und 25% Bindemittel. Bei Rückgabe an Normann Copenhagen am Ende ihrer Lebensdauer können sowohl Schale als auch Gestell recycelt werden.
