Kaiva – modular sofa high by Mdd

The modular Kaiva sofa in dark grey, designed by Dymitr Malcew, lets you decide on the final form of your seating arrangement. Its name means "conversation" in Japanese and perfectly describes the system's intended use: it becomes a place for team activities and informal meetings in offices, hotels, waiting rooms, and libraries.

Acoustics meets design

The high backrest is equipped with acoustic panels using Sonic-Panel technology and has a Class A acoustic certificate. The tall housing dampens external stimuli and creates a private retreat in the middle of the room – the aesthetically designed backrest even allows for placement in the center of the room.

Construction and materials

The panel consists of an upholstered wooden frame, and the backrest is made of chipboard covered with foam (density 55 kg/m³). The seat is padded with foam of the same density and is intentionally made slightly firmer to facilitate getting up and sitting down. The frame is constructed of wood as a box-like structure, and the powder-coated metal connectors (four per panel) ensure stability. The maximum load capacity is 120 kg per seat. Kaiva is manufactured in Poland, within the European Union.

Modularly combinable

Thanks to the wide variety of modules, larger configurations can be created and entire quiet zones can be partitioned off within a room – perfect for focused work or conversations in public spaces. Further designs can be found in the collection. Modular sofa as well as at the manufacturer Mdd.
